Greetings from Camp New Hope and Welcome Summer 2018!
Well our 2018 summer season has started off with a bang! We have had some unusually large families thus far. We are filling both the cottage in the woods (thank you Bob Sumners) and Mackinley’s Playhouse Lodge! This week we have a total of 25!
Besides our regular schedule of Monday, singing and dinner with Martin and reading with Martie, Tuesday, a trip to Ernie’s to ride the train, horse and buggy and wagon ride as well as a hotdog dinner, Wednesday, a presentation with the Park Ranger and dinner with the family, family pictures by Kelly Richardson and Mat and son Eli, Thursday a visit from Santa and baking cookies with Kathy (a first for 2018),Free Pizza at Village Inn and Free movies at the Parkway Theater, daily painting and crafts with Debbie, collecting the chicken eggs with Janice, fishing, floating down the river, swimming, riding trails, playing in the newly renovated game room, bonfires and s’mores and eating watermelon and making homemade ice cream and this week we made banana splits and this isn’t all we do either. Our goal is to make sure we are helping to make incredible memories with these precious families.
We need to thank all the volunteers from those that help work directly with the children to those who help with the mowing and weed eating to those who have help with pulling weeds. It seems we have just finished when it is time to go at it again! I have heard from so many folks this year ” this is the most beautiful place in Ashe County and we have to humbly agree! A big shout out to Will and Mark Adkins who always encourage us and who provide this beautiful place. Thank you to those who financially support us and for those of you who pray for us.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 4 for our Cruise In- Community ride and fundraiser event at Camp New Hope and is sponsored by CNH as well as Bikers of Faith. The event will begin at noon at Smokey Mountain BBQ. Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a 6 seat golf cart that has a handicapped ramp. This would enable the children to stay in their wheelchairs as they ride on the property. It is sometimes difficult to maneuver a child to the RTV’s and figure a way to strap them in where they can be comfortable. Hopefully this golf cart will eliminate that issue. Please be praying as to how you may help out with this event. We will give more details soon!
Enjoy the pictures of our days at CNH! God bless you all and God bless the children of Camp New Hope!
For the Children,
